How to include search results in E-mail Template

We have a situation where certain supplies need to be replaced by the customer on a regular basis.

Currently we are using a Scheduled Saved Search and generating a list of those items to the customer using the e-mail tab of the saved search which does not allow for any customization of the e-mail. (other than text that is applied from the "description" field in the saved search e-mail tab.

What I would like to do is set this up in a scheduled script and send the results to an e-mail template by merging thus giving us a lot more flexibility.
