Process a csv file....

We have a requirement to process a csv file(with multiple columns) and insert the values in a custom record. Import/Export will not work, as the users need to select few options before the file upload, which are used then used to process the file.

I found getValue() in the file API, but not too sure if we can process the file contents column by column using this function? Has anyone done this before. I would appreciate any sample code.
