Using nlapiLoadRecord / nlapiSubmitRecord to trigger a user event script

If I use nlapiLoadRecord and then nlapiSubmitRecord it doesn't seem to trigger other user event scripts I have on the record. I figured it would be in edit mode and trigger the edit type.

Is there any way to trigger user event scripts using nlapiLoadRecord/nlapiSubmitRecord?
