Script Filters vs Saved Search Filters

When you execute a Saved Search from Script, can you over-ride the filters set on the Saved Search, or do the filters set in Script always ADD TO the filters already in the Saved Search?

If you can over-ride the SS filters, could you please provide sample code, or directions to the documentation for this?

I searched the online Help and these forums but could not find an answer to that question.
