Custom CSV Import
I recall seeing this somewhere on the forums and even documentation, but it is escaping me at the moment.
Also, there is an example (halfway) of this in the help documentation, with the Assistant.
Isn't there a way to replicate the CSV import function that Netsuite has built in, and use it for custom scripting?
We have certain functions that need to occur based on some input from outside of Netsuite. The only option I can think of off the top of my head is to:

[*]Create a custom record
[*]Import fields into the custom record, including NS transaction numbers, etc, with the external info as well
