Lifetime customer sales value - script anyone?

Does anyone have a script written that will pull the total amount a customer has spent with company, and populate into a field on the customer record.  Purpose?  Knowing how valuable the customer is in terms of dollars spent with company.

I can pull a report, but I need the amount to be in a field on the customer record in the main area.   I am not a developer and would appreciate anyone who could help with this, or someone who has already done this.
