How to access addressbook city fields from a Customer record.

How can I get the 'city' field from each addressbook line's address on a customer record?

Since the release, nlapiGetLineItemValue/Text('addressbook', 'city', 1) seems to have stopped working. Since 'address' record loading is not supported via nlapiLoadRecord() what is the best way to access these fields?

( I do not want to use nlapiSearchRecord() since I need this functionality on unsaved Customer records too)
