Custom Field List/Record to show 'label' not ID

I'm trying to setup a custom field in a Custom Record Type that will show a list of items using the 'label' (an internal title for the record) of the item, not the NetSuite assigned internal ID.

e.g. my first Custom Record Type is called "Communities", and it has the following Custom Fields:
1) Label (type: free-form-text)
2) MyID (type: integer)

My second Custom Record Type, called "Community Subscriptions" has 4 fields:
1) Contact (type: list/record - List/Record: Contact)
2) Member_ID* (type: integer)
3) Community (type: list/record - List/Record: Communities)
4) Community_ID* (type: integer)

* hidden in data entry form for this Custom Record Type
