Need Help with Parent and Child Record

Hello,

I have built a cutom record and want it to be the parent record of the customer record.
The Parent Record would consist information on external advertisers we deal with.  The parent record would allow me to see how many leads and the lead IDs of the leads this particular advertiser brought to us.
I am having difficulties trying to set up parent and child relationship.  Anyone's help would be appreciated.
