Partner Permissions on Custom Record

Hello

When I assign a customer to a partner only that partner can see the customer which is great.

When I create a custom record with a Partner field set as parent record I was hoping the same logic would apply - the list of the custom records would be filtered so a partner only sees their records but this is not the case.

Should the partner permissions work this way on a custom record?
