All data to be deleted?

We have a custom record set up in Netsuite. When attempting to delete one field, I am met with the warning "Deleting this custom field will delete all data in existing records. Are you sure you want to do it?"

That makes it sound like all my records are going to be deleted, and I don't want that. Please clarify. Will all my records be deleted, or only the information in the custom field I am trying to delete?
