Sourcing Custom Hidden Fields

I had a custom hidden transaction body field, "Sales Rep Location," in version 10.6 that sourced a sales rep's Location from Sales Reps. In version 11 that field is no longer getting sourced unless I make it visible. I don't know whether or not this is a version 11 problem with all sourced hidden fields. Anyhow I am looking for a fix, either to source this hidden field traditionally or a better way--I remember reading that in version 11 you might be able to write script that could retrieve data from other records. I haven't seen any documentation yet on
