Form Widget Size Discrepancy in IE7/Firefox

Anyone noticing and/or have a solution the wide variance between how IE7 and Firefox are displaying dimensions for form widgets like text fields, free-form text, and text areas?  Firefox is showing them much smaller on the width than on IE.  FYI...if you leave the width blank then the size becomes more consistent, but that still does not allow full customization.
