Can't move a field out of "General" subtab on case form

I was creating a custom case entry form and moved a custom field to the "general" tab.  I no longer want it there, but when I am in the "move items between subtabs" view, nothing shows up when I choose the "general" tab.  Are my fields stuck there forever?
