Sourcing Vendor Comments field

I'm trying to source the Comments field from the Vendor record onto a Item Record (per request from the sales team). I create a Custom Item Field and source the Preferred Vendor field but the Comments field is not listed as an available field to source. Am I doing something wrong here?

If this filed isn't available to source, does anyone know of a work around?
