Tier based on value from another field

Hi,

I want to do something like an IF Then statement

IF {custentity6} < 500 Then "my current field" = C
Else if {custentity6} > 500 AND < 1000 then "my current field" = B
Else if {custentity6} > 1000 then "my current field" = A

a sample formula would help a lot.
