Bring Custom Column Field into Label on Print Labels Function

I have a custom column field in sales orders where we can put the client's reference number for each item.  Is there a way to get this to print on the item labels when I use the Print Labels function on the SO?

I tried adding it as a simple custom field reference {custfield} and {transaction.custfield} on the customize PDF layout.
