Text Area box can't be inline text?

Using a Text Area field on Sales Order Form so that I can add colour into the text. Eg: Alert / Ignore Credit Terms etc.
This Text Area field is being sourced and displayed in Invoice. I only want to display the Text Area as an inline text or disabled so that it can't be edited on Invoices. However, even though the field is Inline Text/Disabled, someone can still edit the Text Area and change the text. Why?

How can I add a coloured text and not have someone edit it?
