What the SQL is that?

I wish to create a custom field on the item record that will show the total number of units sold in the previous calender month (as opposed to lunar month, I suppose?) to assist staff with ordering.

I have no idea about SQL. Anyone our there know how to do this or can suggest a website that can bring me up to speed in less than 8 seconds?
