Change Size of Item Description Field

Does anyone know how I can either change the width of the Item description field on an invoice or even better have a Pop Up window to enter in the item description?

We are a service company and if we repair a customer's equipment we have to be specific in what work we performed.  The Description Field box on the Item is very small and it is hard to see what you are entering in.
