Filtering a multi-select from another multi-select

Can a multi-select field be filtered from another multi-select field?

Here's the scenario:

1 - A multi-select field on a partner record gets populated.
2- A custom multi-select field of type partner is added to sales transactions.
3- A second multi-select field that sources the same record as in step 1 is also added to sales transactions.
4 - By selecting a number of partners (from the custom field added in step 2) the multi select-field in step 3 is filtered by a combination of the values from all the partner records selected.

Is there anyway to do this with sourcing/filtering under custom field setup? Or do you need to use the nlapiRemoveSelectOption?
