Custom Form Change Colors

Is there a way for the following.
When  a user is editing a record on a customer  a color change occurs on entity fields within that form. Either all the fonts change to say green or red or the status bar above say Edit mode in a different color
I realize that  the top bar clearly states edit when editing the record but I have high maintenance users that may need a color difference when viewing records
