Date Filters in Transaction Saved Searches

I have built a transaction saved search which I use as a customize view in my customer sublists.   I want to filter this transaction search by date however I do not want to see transactions on a date - I want to see the sum of all transactions on or before a date.

I know I can do this by setting the criteria in a saved search, but this makes the date criteria fixed.   I want it to be variable so if a customer asks me their transaction balance as of "let's say yesterday", I can just enter a date or pull down from a menu.   I thought this was what available filters was for.
