How do I count "days" when the event is recurring?

Hello

I am running a simple search on events.  What I would like to show is...

Example

Owner    Title                #Days
Jeff        Installation       2
Bob        Vacation          4
Bob        Demo              1

etc

It is very easy to count event date unless it is a recurring event.  If the event is a recurring event the "count" shows as one, no matter how many days the event spans.

The second search I want to run is very similar.  What I am looking for is a count of all the vacation days people take.  We have a custom field called "event type" that lets users mark an event as a vacation day.
