Search formula with Primary Earning Amount

Hello!
I am getting an Invalid Expression when trying to use the Primary Earning Amount in a currency or numeric formula on a search.  Even just trying to use the field without any other function in the formula produces an invalid expression.  The field when specified as a result field is showing fine.

Thoughts?
