Get Total of Linked Cash Sales

I know this can be done, but for the life of me I cannot figure out how to create this search.

1. I have sales orders full of hours to be billed

2. I bill in stages, or phases. Upon completion I create an linked invoice to the original sales order. Let's say out of a total 100 hours to a project, I might bill 20.

3. I would like to create a report (by transaction) that can show me what remains to be billed (amount) per sales order.

Is is Applied Transaction, Applied Link Type, Billing Transaction etc etc. Can someone help?
