Default Fields on Saved Search 'Results' tab

When I create a new item saved search there are already fields repopulated on the 'Results' tab.  There are a few standard fields but most are custom.  I can see no rhyme or reason as to how these particular custom fields show up on the 'Results' tab.  Does anyone know how to control this?
