AR Paid vs AR Due (and Overdue) this month?

I'm working on creating a KPI for our collections manager.  He'd like to see AR due through the end of this month vs what's been paid/collected this month.

I've played around with creating a saved search.  I can get all the invoices due before the end of this month that are open and all those due before the end of this month that were paid this month, but doing that involves multiple date filters, which doesn't work so well for a KPI.

Anyone have ideas for a good way of doing this?
