Customer sales formula field

We're trying to create a field under the customer sales view to show just the amount of sales (without shipping). Netsuite support gave this info:

- Go to a Customer record > Sales tab > Transaction subtab > click Customize View > click More Options button (beside Preview button)
- In the Results tab, you need to add a Field:
    -- Formula (Numeric) > in the Formula column = {amount}-{shippingamount} > hit Done

Unfortunately, all we get is:

ERROR: Invalid Expression
