Inventory in Stock on a Date

Is there a way to create a report that tells me what was in stock on a particular day? In particular,  want this to relate to lot and serial numbered items. I know that there is the Inventory Valuation Summary (Detail) that does something similar, but it's far too confusion and would take a lot of time to try and process through the stock movements.
