Making Columns available for edit

Does anyone know

a) when customizing view on a search such as sales->opportunities-> list

How can you have specific columns that have the pencil to be edited from search view, and disable some columns so you can't edit

b) how to add the editing option when it is not available

Also

c) how to publish a customized view as default view for opportunities for specific roles / users
