Predecessors and Durations

Hi

We need to be able to enter tasks into the system whereby we may for example have 10 days to carry out a task that has 16 hours work.  We also need tasks to be able to have predecessors in order that when a plan date moves to the right, all the subsequent tasks also move later.

Does anyone know how can I enter a duration for a task that is longer than the number of hours work?  If I input start and end dates to do represent the duration this then overrides the predecessors, so the plan will not change even if the predecessor changes
