Speed issues?

I'm using the PHP Toolkit, and it seems to take around 15-30 seconds to post data or receive (can't tell if it's one or the other..) feedback to Netsuite. The URL that the toolkit has is:

https://webservices.netsuite.com

I wonder if this is a normal thing? Is it because the toolkit seems to be using synchronous operation as opposed to asynchronous?
