Create a Task for a Lead type?

I'm not seeing anything in the Customer entity relationship definition that will allow me to create a Task under the customer (when under a Lead stage type).

The idea is a client wants to attach a task to a lead so the assigned salesperson knows to follow up on the lead.

How would I accomplish this in the PHP API?
