Undocumented Error Code?: RCRD_HAS_BEEN_CHANGED

When updating the isInActive field on customer records using updateList I got this error:

StatusDetail
code: RCRD_HAS_BEEN_CHANGED
message: Record has been changed

I can't find any documentation about this error code. Has anybody else got this error? do you know what causes it?
