Can't set SalseOrder.otherRefNum

I am setting otherRefNum

SalesOrder.otherRefNum = "1111";

The sales order is saving fine, but that particular value is not saving. The PO field remains empty. Is there something I'm doing wrong? I'm using .NET and the 2.6 WS API.
