Problem adding an address to a customer with the new WSDL

I just converted my .NET application to use the new WSDL (2010.1) and trying to add an address to a customer now fails with the following error:

ERROR:INSUFFICIENT_PERMISSION - You do not have permissions to set a value for element addressbook.addrtext due to one of the following reasons: 1) The field is read-only; 2) An associated feature is disabled; 3) The field is available either when a record is created or updated, but not in both cases.

Is there a new permission?  Is this field now read only?  Or is this just a bug in the new WSDL?  I can't find anything about any changes related to this field in the release notes.
