Custom Field Questions

Somewhat new to SuiteTalk but figuring some things out.

Trying to extract information about our Items to populate a website database and search index.

I can get to the base data elements of an item fine and have figured out how to get to the custom elements as well.

Two questions.

1) Is there a way to get to the display labels that are used in netsuite? For example, on a given custom field I can get to the internal ID and the value, but not the display label.

2) I seem to be missing how to get the actual selected value of a SelectCustomFieldRef.
