Help with creating a report/search/Analytics for a item's sales data

When I do purchasing analysis, we need to get items sales data. An inventory item can be the component of an assembly item, can be a member of a kit/package item. This gets things complicated. Since the Sales by item report does not reflect this inventory item's demand if it is sold under the assembly item or kit/package item. Sales by item report would indicate the qty sold under the assembly item or kit item, then we don't know the actual inventory items that were sold/consumed.

Need to help with creating a report/search/analytics that can reflect the item quantity sold directly, or sold/consumed as the member of a assembly or kit item.
