Why is the <br> tag not working for me in a Saved Search custom label?

When creating a saved search, and when using either a standard field, or a Formula (HTML) field, I cannot get the <br> tag to work on the fields' custom label. For instance when I write Line <br>Break in the custom label field, the column heading shows as LINE <BR>BREAK
