NSC | A Custom Record Needs Sequential Numbers: How to Enable Auto-Numbering
When custom records are used for internal tracking, it can be helpful to assign each record a unique sequential number. This makes records easier to identify, search, reference, and audit.
Auto-numbering helps reduce manual entry and keeps record IDs consistent as new custom records are created.
Scenario
A company uses a custom record to track internal requests.
Users currently enter reference numbers manually, which can lead to issues such as:
- duplicate numbers
- skipped numbers
- inconsistent naming
- difficulty searching for records
- confusion when referencing records in reports or emails
The company wants NetSuite to assign each custom record a number automatically.
