Erroneous duplicate item setup warning

Simply creating new inventory items, and when saving getting a message that "There is already an item with that name. Go back, change the name and resubmit."  I've had this happen twice now - yesterday and today - when there is no other existing item.  Even tweaking the item id / name doesn't help.

Anyone else having this issue?

Just called support number but got a busy signal.  thanks.
