Customers inventory (rentals)

We need to keep tracking inventory level form items at client's locations. We do not sell our items we rent them.
A regular Sales Order is opened, so that we'll have a contract to do recurring billing and invoicing.
What transactions should we use to move items from our warehouse/location to the client's location?
We need to be able to track the inventory, and keep billing the original Sales Order (contract).
I checked the Transfer Order workflow, but couldn't find a way to link it to the original Sales Order and/or the the Customer...

Also, a little advanced issue - is there an option to create a transaction that send items from one location to
