How to remove image from item "thumbnail" dropdown

Noticed that once you select an image to display as a thumbnail or image, you have to delete the image in order to stop displaying the image.

Is there any way that you can turn off the image with out deleting it? It seems that you should be able to select a null value to turn the image off.
