First and Last Month Deposits

Has anyone come up with a way to accept first/last month deposits from customers and have them automatically apply against the invoices in this way? Best case, the month one invoice is sent out at $0 (showing charge and payment) as is the last month invoice, while the rest simply show the charge.  I'm looking for a way to do this without needing to go into every invoice every cycle to apply payments etc.
