Sales Tax on purchases

We are somewhat new to NS and are wondering how others handle Sales Tax paid on inventory purchases.
Usually when when we receive the bill from vendors,  sales tax is added separate from the items ordered.
Do most NS users prorate the sales tax amoung items ordered, or do you classify the sales tax separately to an expense account
