Mass Delete of Matrix Items (Parent and Chld)

Anyone know how to mass delete matrix items? I saw this post:

that uses the inline editor to delete normal Inventory Items. This approach does not seem to work for matrix items.

I know you have to delete the child items first. Even in cases where all the children have been removed (via SuiteTalk), the parent cannot be clicked-deleted using the inline editor.

I know I can run a mass update to mark the inventory items as Inactive, but the items are linked to externalIds so I need to delete them completely. I couldn't see any mass update under Mass Update to delete items..
