Automate locking periods

Is there a way to automate locking accounting periods? We would like to close our periods early in the morning on the first day of the month. It needs to be done about 4am to prevent transactions from going into the incorrect period. The challenge is the accounting department doesn't start until 8am.

I know it can't be scripted but maybe there's Netsuite functionality to manage the initial close?
