Ability to order Kit from Vendor

Was hoping someone had some creative ideas.  We need to 'reverse' the functionality of Kit Items.  Some of our vendors have an item for available for purchase (Item Z) that we will in fact split into 2 seperate items (Item A and Item for resale.

Any idea how we can best handle this during the purchase process?
