Taxing prescription items

edited Dec 23, 2019 10:47PM in Accounting / ERP 8 comments

We have certain items that customers purchase, a knee brace for example.

Some customers have a prescription from a doctor, and aren't charged sales tax on the purchase. Another customer might by the same item, and not have a prescription so they are charged sales tax. And the customer with the prescription might also buy another item on the order that they don't have a prescription for, so we have to tax them on that other item.

We are using an outside sales tax software, CCH. We can make the customer exempt, or we can map the item to a non-taxable product. However, we can't mark just the line item or the transaction 'non-taxable'.

Howdy, Stranger!
